Allocating to Natural Capital – Climate and Biodiversity Trends and Portfolio Considerations
The presentation will focus on:
• Adding climate and biodiversity considerations to the traditional characteristics of investing in forestry & agriculture.
• Changing portfolio considerations for investors to consider risk, return, climate and biodiversity.
o How have our investors allocated previously and how do we expect them to allocate in the next 5 years?
o For institutional investors, assessing land and nature involves seeing how nature and climate will impact portfolio allocation:
How to choose investments that at a minimum do not increase nature loss and beyond that restore it?
Also, what metrics can be used to measure biodiversity risks? (New Forests is an early adopter of the TNFD framework).

Integrating bitcoin into institutional asset portfolios to improve outcomes
For many years, bitcoin has been treated as a speculative asset unsuitable for institutional investors. However, we are at an inflection point. The strength of the bitcoin network, the rise of geopolitical risks, the threat of inflation and counterparty failures, the recognition that bitcoin is categorically different to other digital assets, the realisation that bitcoin is the most ESG-friendly asset available, and the greater institutional appetite for assets that offer true diversification, has led to significant developments to allow institutions to invest in bitcoin securely and safely. Price volatility will remain for the foreseeable future, but the chances are high that bitcoin will become a major strategic reserve asset in decades to come for governments, pension trusts, charities, and companies. Institutional investors with long time horizons should be curious about the impact of a small allocation.
