Pooling: a new frontier

The LGPS Reforms and Fiduciary Duty
Fiduciary duty goes back certainly to medieval law, and some say to Saxon and Roman law. The LGPS clearly has fiduciary responsibility for its beneficiaries, and the Scheme Advisory Board sought legal opinion in 2014 and 2015 to clarify the implications for Administering Authorities. This session will look at how the interpretation of fiduciary duty might be altered by the Government's reform proposals, or whether, conversely, it might be an obstacle to them.
Deputy Board Secretary
Local Government Pension Scheme Advisory Board (SAB)
How to set an ESG agenda, and the challenges around that for a publicly accountable body
Climate change, conflict, protecting the natural environment and supporting workers rights… there are so many issues that LGPS funds can be called on to incorporate into their investment strategy and beliefs. In all the noise, how do you decide which issues to focus on and how do you pursue them consistently with your fiduciary duty? And what are the trade-offs in trying to align your policies with those of other funds in your pool? This session will include reflections and suggestions from the Scheme Advisory Board and then invite discussion amongst attendees.
