Andrew Milligan
Independent Economist & Consultant
Andrew has had a wide-ranging career, which culminated in working from 2000 until 2020 as Head of Global Strategy at Standard Life / Aberdeen Standard Investments. This involved creating the House View, researching both tactical and strategic asset allocation decisions for pension schemes and other major investors around the world. Prior to that his roles included working in the civil service at H.M. Treasury, as an international economist at Lloyds Bank and Smith New Court stockbrokers, and in fund management as Director of Economic Research and Business Risk at Aviva Investors.
Andrew is now an independent economist and investment consultant, advising a variety of pension schemes and other investors. He writes regularly on financial matters for Jackson Hole Economics, the Munix local authority platform, and the trade press. He sits on the investment committee of the £1.2 billion Health Foundation endowment, is a board member for Devlin Mambo and the Asia Scotland Institute, is investment adviser to Balmoral Asset Management, and trustee of the Archdiocese of St Andrews and Edinburgh.
Andrew was a member of Court of Heriot Watt University, where he still lectures. He received an O.B.E. in 2015 for ‘services to innovation and the economy’, having been a Governing Board member of the Technology Strategy Board, now Innovate UK.
