Phil is Head of Manager Selection & Monitoring at USSIM, the investment management arm of the Universities Superannuation Scheme, having joined in September 2021. Phil has responsibility for the selection and oversight of external asset managers across public markets. Before joining USSIM, Phil co-founded Ricardo Research, an advisory firm building on the ideas developed at the Paul Woolley Centre for the Study of Capital Market Dysfunctionality at the London School of Economics. Prior to this, Phil was a Partner and Global Director of Strategic Research at Mercer. With 20 years’ experience in the pensions and investment industry, Phil has worked with large institutional investors across Europe to help them address a wide range of investment challenges. Phil holds a first class degree in Mathematics from the University of Warwick and is a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries.
